What Open Source Depot is All About

This site is about all software, free, open source and paid. The name open source depot comes from our overall support of open source concepts. There is an amazing selection of high quality, free open source software out there. We also realize that under certain circumstances there are excellent commercial alternatives.

This site is meant as a quick hit for us as web masters. In other words, if I see something I like (for instance a good software related article on Article Chimp then I will post it here. Or if I learn something new, or have some news, it goes up here.

Since this is all about Open Source Software, let me give you the break down of this site.

1) Hosted on GoDaddy on a $6/month hosting account. 1000GB bandwidth and 100GB drive space.
2) Hosted under Linux (Open Source)
3) MySQL Database (Open Source)
4) PHP (not sure which version...sorry) (Open Source)
5) Serendipity (that is the piece of blog software which makes my life easy). (Open Source)

All I needed to do to get this up and running was create a mysql database, install serendipity and start typing

So, my total cost to get this site running is:
$8.95/year for domain hosting
$6/month for GoDaddy hosting

All the software used was/is included by GoDaddy or free/installed by me.

Life is good. Open Source Software makes it better!
